Zumba is, in fact, a form of exercise, but if you stumbled across a Zumba class, it might seem like a bunch of friends having a dance party! This is one of the main reasons we’re so amped about Zumba right now – it doesn’t feel like exercise, but you’re still getting that heart rate elevated and burning calories while having a blast! It’s a win-win if you ask us.
Zumba is an aerobic form of exercise that features movements from traditional Latin American dances. There are several health benefits of Zumba:
- It can help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
- It can improve heart health.
- It can increase muscle tone.
Similar to Tiffany, the instructor for the Railroad Park Get Healthy free Zumba classes, an instructor will set up in the front of the group, so he or she is visible by all, and they’ll crank the tunes and start dancing – or should we say exercising!
We attended one of Tiffany’s classes to meet her and get the inside scoop on Zumba. She informed us that Zumba is for folks of all genders, races, ages, and level of dance background. Be sure to talk to your instructor before the class begins to let them know of any modifications you may need. She also gave us a few moves to try in the comfort of our own homes: Front and Back Salsa, Side to Side Salsa, Reggaeton Stomp, Destroza, and Sleepy Leg. Check them out in the video below.
