Can you tell us a little bit about how you found out about Pack Health and what made you want to sign up?
The CEO of Urology Centers of Alabama is a good friend of mine, he contacted me soon after my prostate cancer diagnosis and asked if Pack Health was something I would be interested in trying. I was skeptical at first because I had never done anything like it before, especially for my health, but I signed up because I had a feeling it couldn’t hurt and started talking with Michael a week later!
But I have great news! I found out today I beat cancer!!! I got a call this morning that I’m in remission! I’ve decided It’s all in your mindset, I think that’s half the battle. You can’t run, you have to fight! That’s not enough though. Someone right now is getting “that talk” from their doctor and that breaks my heart. Where there’s a will there’s a way!
We’re so happy to have you in our program! How has your experience been so far? How’s it been with Michael?
Michael has been terrific. At first, I was afraid I was getting a health coach that was going to push me further than I could handle, especially after my surgery. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and he was more than supportive throughout the recovery and really focused on what the doctors told me to do.
He has really helped me with my nutrition — I’ve been struggling with appetite and he’s helped me to work through this, even 6 weeks after surgery. Everything has a side effect with cancer, so it’s been incredibly helpful. My surgeon told me to increase my calorie intake and eat meals that I’m looking forward to eating because it helps put you in the mindset.
As a matter of fact, I’m renewing my membership with Pack Health because I’m just not ready to be done!
Did you two set any specific Tiny Steps you’d like to share?
Initially, we were working on stretching and basic movement before my surgery. Any abdominal surgery will really knock you down. Especially with it being winter and hard to get outside. He sent me several stretch band exercises to do.
He also sent me a portion size magnet to hang on my fridge!
How has Pack Health helped you change your lifestyle?
I started a personal website as a resource — you can find it here. To be honest, I reached out to actual people who’d been down this road before. I met a guy days after I was diagnosed, who had just had the surgery and I wanted to use my platform as a resource for folks who are about to go through this. I wanted to offer encouragement and a lot of information — and I’m not done with it! I want it to be used by people and feel good about it!
What piece of advice would you give to someone who’s interested in joining Pack Health?
I would tell them to not be afraid of the Tiny Steps! Don’t let this intimidate you. Let this be something that allows you to be better in an area you want to grow. The program is great for anyone! If nothing else, it gives you some sort of control in a world you don’t feel like you have any. All the information is in front of you so it’s all right.
